Woamy is proud to announce a collaboration with Planmeca, one of the world's leading manufacturers of dental equipment and software; marking Woamy's entry into healthcare technology and medical device packaging. The result of this collaboration demonstrates how fibre-based packaging materials can deliver the protection and reliability required for high-precision medical devices.

As Planmeca prepared for the launch of its new handheld Planmeca Onyx™ intraoral scanner, the company was committed to find a packaging solution that combined high-performance protection with improved sustainability and circularity. After evaluating different alternatives, Planmeca selected Woamy's circular biofoam due to its strong protective properties and easy recyclability with cardboard and paper.

We were looking for a fibre-based packaging solution that could meet both our sustainability goals and the protection requirements of a high-quality medical device with sensitive optical technology. What impressed us was not only the recyclability of Woamy's material, but also its cleanliness and performance.” says Oona Ahllund, Product Specialist for CAD/CAM Products at Planmeca.

The final packaging resulting from this collaboration successfully passed extensive transportation, drop, and piling tests, demonstrating that sustainable materials can deliver the performance required to protect advanced healthcare technology with sensitive optics throughout the supply chain.

“The dust-free material enabled us to eliminate additional plastic bags previously used to protect the scanner and its accessories, helping us remove plastic from the packaging altogether,” says Pontus Degerlund, Director of CAD/CAM products at Planmeca. “Our scanner features reusable scanning tips that help reduce electronic waste and support more sustainable clinical workflows. Using biodegradable yet durable packaging materials is another way we can advance our broader sustainability goals.”

"Collaborating with a globally respected leader in dental technology like Planmeca helps us show that sustainable fibre-based materials can meet the requirements of some of the most demanding packaging applications. Where there is no room to compromise on protection, cleanliness, or quality. " Says Luisa Jannuzzi, Chief Commercial Officer at Woamy.

By combining strong protective performance, recyclability, and production in Finland, Woamy helps customers reduce their environmental footprint without compromising on quality. The Planmeca new packaging shows there are significant opportunities to replace conventional plastic foams across a wide range of high-value products, including electronics, industrial equipment, healthcare technology, and other B2B hardware applications.
