Woamians are proud to announce yet another challenging, but fun packaging project for the popular popsicle sculptures from Pau La Design. These pieces of art from the Finnish designer Paula Pääkkönen have been featured for example at Benetton shop windows in Milan. No two popsicles are the same since glass blowing gives each piece slightly unique size and shape. Therefore, it was important to find a way to make the solution easily adjustable to different sizes of popsicles so that the packing experience would be significantly more efficient for Paula and her team, as well as create a pleasant unboxing experience for the end customer.
Our design team at Woamy accepted gladly the challenge to protect these fragile and heavy items of multiple sizes during the transportation. In close cooperation with the artist Woamy developed a clever and modular insert system using Woamy boards and sheets, able to adjust to a wide range of sizes while guarantying tight and efficient protection for popsicle sculptures.
“Besides of being an ecological and beautiful solution, the material is ideal for glass since it gives a slight grip and friction against the glass, unlike cardboard and/or paper that slides on top of the material. I am glad to introduce to the world the Woamy’s biofoam with my art pieces.” says glass artist Paula Pääkkönen.
“When developing this package, beyond the technical aspects we also considered the poetic and sensorial aspects of the packaging. The Woamy biofoam, a soft, warm, light, airy and organic material, creates a striking contrast with the artwork, a shiny, fragile, cold, heavy and rigid object - highlighting its unique character and emphasizing its values. The artwork is surrounded by a soft, protective, and safe frame, underlining how precious it is.” Reflects Imola Balogh, designer at Woamy.
Woamy wishes to thank also Katja Hagelstam and Lokal Gallery, who played an important role in making the first contact between the Woamy and Paula and found the synergies and how each party can benefit from this cooperation. Pau La Design popsicles are also available at Lokal Gallery (www.lokalhelsinki.com/fi/kauppa/).
PAU LA DESIGN - Paula Pääkkönen (born 1990) is a glassblower and an artist. She works in the famous glass village of Nuutajärvi, Finland. Glass is her main material because it’s such a challenging element – the glassblowing techniques are an endless source of inspiration for her. As an artist, she is currently working with the theme of childhood, memories and imagination. In her work she is chasing the moment, when common things still have a hint of magic and the proportions of the world may vary (https://pau-ladesign.com/).
LOKAL GALLERY - With curated exhibitions both in Lokal Gallery on Annankatu in Helsinki as well as in the online gallery, Lokal strives to serve you moments in which art, craftsmanship and sustainability merge, reflecting the harmony of nature in both essence, material and design. The artwork, homeware and handmade jewellery is all made by contemporary Finnish or Finland-based artists and artisans, and available to purchase through the web shop.
